EastEnders star Shane Richie has teased a big Alfie Moon storyline that’s set to top the devastating 40th anniversary’s episodes.
Richie has recently weighed in on an upcoming story that spells “fireworks” for Alfie and Kat Slater. Though he remained tightlipped about the specifics, the soap star said the new Alfie subplot is long-term and will continue till Christmas.
Speaking with The Mirror at The British Soap Awards 2025, The actor said he spoke with new producer Ben Wadey about the story that’s about to kick off, saying: “He has told me some things. I said, ‘Let me sit down’.”
“There’s fireworks, there’s Kat and Alfie. There is a story that is about to kick in, which will carry on through to after Christmas. Honestly it’s a big story. If you thought the 40th was big wait until you see this story. That’s all I’m saying.”

It isn’t clear how the Alfie story will connect to Zoe Slater’s reported return, as Kat’s daughter, played by Michelle Ryan, has been tipped to return to Walford.
Reflecting on Alfie’s brother Spencer, who was played by Christopher Parker between 2002 and 2005, Richie said he’d like the character to come back one day.

“One of my sons keeps in touch with Christopher, but he’s a lawyer now,” Richie said.
“He flies between LA and London. I would love to think that one day they might bring back Spencer, but so much is going on at the moment. Alfie could probably do without that.”
EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
