The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing safety Quindell Johnson, according to his agent. Johnson will join a deep safety room and hopes to crack the team’s roster.
In addition, it is another Memphis player to join the roster, with Calvin Austin III, Kenny Gainwell, and Roc Taylor already on the team.
Johnson was with the San Francisco 49ers earlier this offseason when he was signed to a reserve/future contract. However, the team released him on May 13, and now he heads to Pittsburgh.
Johnson was an undrafted free agent in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Memphis. He signed initially with the Los Angeles Rams, but was cut during final roster cut downs. He joined the Chicago Bears after that, and was on their practice squad or active roster for much of the 2023 season. He re-joined the Rams in 2024 on their practice squad.
In his career, Johnson has played in nine games and had three tackles, one interception, and one pass deflection. However, much of his career has been spent on practice squads as a depth player.
Johnson is a 6-foot, 201-pound safety that projects to be a versatile player who can play in the box or free safety. He ran a 4.55 40-yard dash.
