Who will win the Ballon d’Or 2025? Will it be Ousmane Dembele, Mohamed Salah, or the young phenom Lamine Yamal? These are just a few of the favorite names expected to make the list for this year’s award. Here’s when, where and what to know about the most coveted soccer award.
This year marks the 69th edition of the Ballon d’Or, football’s most prestigious individual award a player can receive, recognizing talent and outstanding performance on the pitch over the previous season. It is presented annually by France Football since 1956.
The three main criteria for the prestigious award are based on individual performances and impressive character, team performances and achievements, and class and fair play.
The winner of the 2024 Ballon d’Or was Rodri of Manchester City. Argentinian Lionel Messi has won the most Ballon d’Or awards with eight total and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo has been nominated a record 18 times with five wins. Two-time winner, Brazilian Ronaldo is currently the youngest player to ever have won the award at the age of 21.

You can’t compare Salah to Messi or Ronaldo
With 25 goals in 27 games, Liverpool boss Arne Slot was asked to compare Mo Salah to two of football’s greats.
