The team relieved head coach Pete DeBoer of his duties, it announced on Friday.
“After careful consideration, we believe that a new voice is needed in our locker room to push us closer to our goal of winning the Stanley Cup,” general manager Jim Nill said in a statement.
Dallas is coming off an appearance in the Western Conference Final, where it fell to the Edmonton Oilers in five games.
DeBoer, 56, spent three seasons behind the Stars bench, leading the team to the semifinals each time.
However, Dallas has not been able to get over the hump — and its latest loss came with some controversy as DeBoer pulled starting goalie Jake Oettinger in Game 5, and called out his performance after the game.
“There’s no question there were some hard feelings. There’s no question it has to be mended,” Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported in the aftermath of the loss.
Dallas, which finished second in the Central Division during the regular season with a 50-26-6 record, did not name a replacement for DeBoer.
It is now the lone team without a bench boss after eight other franchises made head-coaching switches.
