JoJo Siwa is gushing about her “genuine connection” with fellow “Celebrity Big Brother” alum Chris Hughes.
“People can see our chemistry, and they got to see it develop,” Siwa said in an interview with The Guardian published Monday, June 2. “I think everyone’s just curious, and I can’t blame them.
“It’s not platonic anymore, and it’s been a beautiful development,” she continued. “A beautiful connection, and I’m absolutely head over heels for him, and he’s the same way.”
As for the public speculation that has already ramped up and she expects to continue, Siwa told the British outlet she’s intent on tuning it out.
“I do live this very, very big public life that has so many eyeballs on it, and it can get really hard to navigate,” she told the outlet. “But I’m also living a human life. You can’t help who you love.”
Siwa and Hughes began fueling non-plantonic rumors almost immediately after leaving the “Big Brother” house.
The pop singer and British TV personality, whose close relationship on the show seemed just short of romantic, gave fans another window into their growing bond on June 1 in an intimate photo shared on Hughes’ Snapchat story.
The photo showed a shirtless Hughes, 32, lying in bed as a seemingly asleep Siwa, 22, nuzzled against his chest. Hughes could also be seen cradling Siwa’s head and planting a kiss on her forehead. “Sleeepinnn beauty,” the post read.
The affectionate selfie came nearly two weeks after Siwa and Hughes drew buzz after sharing a series of tender photos of themselves spending time together after their controversial stint on the reality game show.
Reflecting on her birthday week, Siwa shared a set of photos on Instagram May 21 that included intimate shots with Hughes: “Absolutely beautiful, wouldn’t change a single thing. A week I’ll remember for the rest of my life.” The previous day, Hughes gave a similar shoutout to Siwa in his own photo carousel, writing, “The previous 7 days have been the prettiest.”
Siwa’s now-confirmed romance with Hughes comes after the singer’s ex Kath Ebbs criticized their breakup and accused the former child star of “emotional cheating” amid Siwa and Hughes’ closeness in the “Big Brother” house. Ebbs said in a viral video in April that “everything we saw unfold on what I thought was a fake reality show, where I didn’t need to worry about the validity of my relationship, was, in fact, laced in a lot of truth.”
During a “This Morning” interview days after Ebbs’ video, Siwa said the isolation of being on “Celebrity Big Brother” inspired her to take stock of issues in her life, including her romance with Ebbs. “I really realized things that I was OK with in my life that I should never have been OK with in the first place,” she said.
Siwa, who opened up about her evolving outlook on her sexuality on the British reality show, welcomed Pride Month in a heartfelt statement on her June 1 Instagram story. “Everyone’s story is different, and everyone’s journey is different. The most beautiful thing about love is that it’s just love,” she wrote.
