Urena was designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. He then went unclaimed on waivers and rejected his outright assignment, instead electing free agency.
It appears he’s now found a major league opportunity, as Heyman reported Urena is joining the Dodgers in Los Angeles for Tuesday’s game against the New York Mets.

Urena joined the Mets on a minor league deal in late February. He made one appearance with the big league club, allowing five earned runs in three innings before being designated for assignment.
In early May, he signed a one-year, major league contract with the Blue Jays. He made six appearances (two starts) with Toronto, allowing five earned runs over 12.1 innings for a 3.65 ERA. He was then designated for assignment again.

Urena is in his 11th season in Major League Baseball. He debuted in 2015 with the Miami Marlins and spent six seasons with the club, making 142 appearances (98 starts) and sporting a 4.60 ERA over 597 innings.
He then bounced around the league, spending time with the Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado Rockies, Chicago White Sox and Texas Rangers before splitting time between the Mets and Blue Jays this season.
Overall, across 239 career appearances and 154 starts, Urena has a 4.78 ERA with 643 strikeouts over 963.2 innings pitched.
He will provide length to a Dodgers pitching staff that currently has 15 pitchers on the injured list and leads the league in bullpen innings.

Dodgers relievers have combined to pitch 255 innings this year, which is nearly 10 more than the next closest team in the Brewers. Their combined bullpen ERA of 3.99 ranks 17th in MLB.
The Dodgers will hope Urena can provide some relief as they await the return of many of their injured stars.
The Dodgers enter Tuesday’s game at 36-24, one game up on the San Diego Padres for first place in the National League West.
