SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Over the weekend there have been wildfires burning in parts of Canada and some of the smoke from these fires is already moving closer to New York State.
Here’s a look at the latest air quality alerts issued by the National Weather Service for Monday.
Right now the smoke is out across the Midwest and Western and Central Great Lakes.
Computer models accounting for particulates in the air and winds in the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere show the smoke getting closer to CNY by Tuesday morning and afternoon.
Now through Monday and Monday night we do not expect any smoke to be in our sky just yet.
At this time we do not believe the smoke will be intense enough to smell or affect breathing here at the surface Tuesday. Instead the smoke will cause some extra haze to be in the sky and mostly stay aloft.
The smoke may linger for another day or two this week. Please check back in with our forecasts both on-air and online for the latest information about any smoke impacting CNY.
